On Capital Hill, Congress reached a deal to avert a partial government shutdown for the second set of spending bills.  Congress will have to address spending in October as the government physical year ends on September.  That will put spending front and center during the heart of the election season.  Our thought is that Congress will pass a continuing resolution till after the election or punt to the new Congress that will be sworn in January of 2025. Congress is currently on break for Easter and is not scheduled to be back till the week of April 8th.

Fed Chairman Powell and the Fed Board Governors remain s committed to 3 rate cuts and the timing of the first rate cut most likely happening during their June Meeting. The current probability decreased from 71% - 60% of a June rate cut but data could push that back.  You can track interest rate projections by visiting the following site: CME FedWatch Tool.
